Locorotondo things to do

Villa Garibaldi

Villa Garibaldi is my favorite attraction in Locorotondo. It is a small, but incredibly beautiful park which you need to see! The park is also known as Villa Comunale Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The park looks truly stunning! Wherever that you look around, you see beautiful flowers, plants and trees. Villa Garibaldi is one of the things you really have to do in Locorotondo.

By the way, not only the park itself is beautiful. In fact, from Villa Garibaldi you have a breathtaking view over the Valle d’Itria. Mainly at Belvedere di Locorotondo and Punto Panoramico Locorotondo.

The park and the view is somewhat similar to Villa Comunale in Cisternino. However, I really think Villa Garibaldi is more beautiful!

Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio

The Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio, also called Church of Saint George Martyr in English, is the main cathedral of Locorotondo.

Among a maze of small streets, out of nowhere you find the Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio. The most important and perhaps the most beautiful church in Locorotondo, right in the historic center of the city.

The construction of the Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio began in 1790. However, it took until 1825 before the church was completely finished.

Chiesa Rettoria Madonna della Greca

You will find this beautiful church just outside the circle of the old center of Locorotondo. Nevertheless, it is well worth taking a moment to visit the Chiesa Rettoria Madonna della Greca.

Chiesa Rettoria Madonna della Greca is the oldest church in Locorotondo. Thus, the church was built around the 7th and 8th centuries.

The current facade dates from the 15th century. In fact, in the 15th century the Chiesa Rettoria Madonna della Greca was rebuilt again. This sand-colored church truly shines beautifully in the sun.

Palazzo Morelli

The magnificent Baroque Palazzo Morelli built in 1819, is one of Locorotondo’s most famous landmarks. The palace is known for its unique architecture.

Be sure to check out the entrance and the magnificent facade of Palazzo Morelli. There you will find the Morelli’s family crest. A beautiful elephant with a tower on its back.

You will find Palazzo Morelli hidden among the narrow streets on Via Morelli. Pay special attention to the 2 glittering balconies.

Chiesa di San Rocco Locorotondo

The Chiesa di San Rocco which is also called Santuario di San Rocco can be found close to the Chiesa Rettoria Madonna della Greca. Thus, these 2 churches are less than 100 meters from each other.

The Chiesa di San Rocco was built in 1568. Unfortunately, this church was demolished in 1804, but a new church came back on the same location.

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II Locorotondo

Piazza Vittorio emanuele II is the main square of Locorotondo and dates back to the 19th century. Once you walk under the Porta Napoli you reach this town square, where you will also find the town hall right away.

It is actually only a very small square, but in my opinion the most pleasant square in Locorotondo. Because of the stores and restaurants, the square is bursting with atmosphere.

At Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II you will find the famous café “Caffe della villa”. Here it is always packed and cozy! The ideal place for a coffee.

Did you know that the main square in Cisternino is also called Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II? That square is also worth a visit!

Belvedere di Locorotondo en Punto Panoramico Locorotondo

These 2 magnificent viewpoints in Locorotondo can be found at Villa Garibaldi.

Due to Locorondo’s higher elevation, you have a beautiful view of the Valle d’Itria, several trulli houses and magnificent olive groves.

Also, take a walk down via the Via Nardelli. In fact, from this street you also have a beautiful view of the Valle d’Itria.
