We spent 10 days in Catania ourselves. This seemed long in advance, but the evening life in Catania is so vibrant that the days will fly by! There were so many good restaurants in Catania that it is possible to eat at a nice place every night. For dinner in catania, the following made our list of the best restaurants in Catania.

There are several nice places to eat and drink in Catania, but for the best restaurants and a great atmosphere, you have to go to Via Santa Filomena. This narrow street has cute lights and there are restaurants on both sides of the street where everyone sits at a table outside. This is the street where you have to be for dinner in Catania! Of the 5 times we went out for dinner, 4 times we ended up in Via Santa Filomena.

Where to eat in Catania

Alè Ristorante Pizzeria

At Alè Ristorante Pizzeria, the choice is simple. This is one of the places in Catania to eat inside! Alè has a chic atmosphere, but what makes the restaurant special is the roof which can be opened. This allows you to eat beautifully under the starry sky. Definitely a unique experience. The food at Alé is also great! A bit more expensive than most other restaurants in Catania. However, the special inside location makes it worth it. The restaurant can of course be found in Via Santa Filomena.

L’Horloge

Besides Alè, you can also find restaurant L’Horloge in Via Santa Filomena. When you sit outside, you have a nice view of the entire street. The menu features delicious dishes with pistachio and different types of gnocchi. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Catania.

FUD Bottega Sicula

Also this third restaurant can be found in the same street. Looking for the best burger in Catania? Then you should definitely go to FUD. Unfortunately, you can’t make a reservation here and it is always busy. However, it is definitely worth waiting a while over here. At FUD you have delicious burgers and loaded fries for a good price. In general, you spend a little less time here than at the other restaurants. Ideal if you have made a day trip and it is already quite late.

Trattoria la Pentolaccia

This restaurant is located in a hidden place. We happened to find this great place to eat in Catania when we were strolling through some narrow streets during the day. We returned in the evening and the atmosphere was authentically Sicilian and cozy. You can find the Trattoria at a really small square surrounded by buildings. It has so much atmosphere and in my opinion it is one of the best restaurants which is located in a calmer area of Catania. At Trattoria la Pentolaccia you have a delicious house wine, for those who want to enjoy it cheaply.

Scirocco

Do you like fried fish? Tasty calamari for example? Then you really need to go to Scirocco! This restaurant is close to Piazza del Duomo, right by the Mercato della Pescheria. You simply cannot get the fish any fresher than this.

Over here you can get all kinds of fish. We personally chose a cornetto calamari. Where we are used to a cone of chips, they have a cone of calamari over in Catania. It’s always busy at Scirocco, but since everyone leaves quickly, it’s just a matter of time before it’s your turn.

Comis

When looking where to eat in Catania, we also want to advice you one of the perfect places we found for having breakfast.

For a unique Sicilian breakfast, go to Comis on Piazza Vincenzo Bellini square. This is the place to order the best granita in Catania! We can’t imagine having a sorbet for breakfast every morning, but in Sicily it is the most normal thing. Usually you eat the granita together with a brioche. So it’s actually a kind of sandwich with ice cream, where you take one bite of the brioche with a little scoop of the ice cream on top of it. We recommend ordering only 1 granita and 1 brioche here, even if you are with two persons. The granitas are very sweet and filling.

We enjoyed trying it once, but after this one time at Comis we had enough sweets for our entire holiday.

Best bars Catania

Vermut

This is one of the busiest bars in all of Catania. The terrace is super full and it is always pleasant. So make sure you reserve a place here or go to the terrace on time. Vermut can be found in Via Gemellaro. While Via Santa Filomena is the street for the best restaurants in Catania, Via Gemellaro is the street for having a drink.

Città Vecchia

For a nice wine, this is the place to be in Catania! You have a small terrace here where many of the locals sit down to have a drink. The special thing about Città Vecchia is the menu. In fact, this is the waiter! When you ask to see the menu, the waiter says that he himself is the menu. He knows all the drinks on the menu. A unique experience and definitely one of the best bars in Catania.

Prestipino Duomo

Usually the terraces in the main square are tourist attractions, for which you have to pay a hefty price. However, at Prestipino Duomo you will find a cozy terrace on the main square that is always full, and where the prices are actually not that high. When you order a drink, you even get a bowl of chips and several other snacks. So at Prestipino Duomo you don’t have to worry about paying too much, while being able to sit on the bustling main square.

Also, don’t forget to walk inside when you have a drink on the terrace. You will be amazed when you see all the delicious snacks in the display cases over here.

Prestipino Cafè

This terrace is actually very close to Prestipino Duomo and the prices here are also reasonable. I like Prestipino Duomo better in the evening, but during the day you should sit on the terrace of Prestipino Cafè. Here I ate the most delicious pistachio cannoli in all of Sicily. It may look small, but the cannoli tastes great and will definitely fill your stomach!

Don Peppinu

Not only has Catania some good restaurants, also for ice cream you are in the right city! Don Peppinu has a wide variety of flavours which all of them are delicious.

In the evening there is always a que in front of Don Peppinu. However, it’s definitly worth the wait!
